My First three months at OX IT Solutions

Tom Stewart joined our team in September 2022 as Business Development Manager. Thanks to our tailored training programme and the support of his colleagues, Tom has flourished in his first three months and now has ambitious plans for his future in the industry.

We spoke to Tom to find out more about his time at OX IT Solutions and how he has adapted his sales experience to the tech world.

Why OX IT Solutions?

Before joining the team, Tom worked in a variety of customer service and sales roles. Like many other OX IT employees, he made the switch to a career in IT after being inspired by the constant developments in the industry.

“There are so many exciting opportunities in the IT and tech world, so I knew it was an industry I wanted to get involved with,” said Tom. “Based on the skills and interests I already had, I thought it would be a good fit for me and I hoped it would be an area where I could build a long-term future.

“When it came to finding the right job for me, OX IT Solutions really stood out. They made it clear to me that they would support my professional development within the industry, and I was interested in the variety the role offered.

“Unlike some other resellers and distributors, OX IT Solutions work with a wide range of vendors to supply a variety of products and services so I knew it was somewhere where I would learn a lot.”

A typical day

As a Business Development Manager Tom is responsible for generating leads, driving sales and promoting OX IT Solutions’ products and services. Business Development Managers work in close partnership with our Account Managers and are the first point of contact for potential clients.

Tom explained: “One of my main focuses on a day-to-day basis is reaching out to new prospects through phone calls and emails. This could be pitching our products or services to other businesses, or it could be following up on previous conversations.

“A key part of my role as Business Development Manager is to build a profile on clients and prospects. This helps us understand their needs and what solutions would work best for them.”

Professional development

Through our bespoke training programme, our team are able to fast-track their professional development and build a well-rounded knowledge of the IT and cyber security industry.

“I have learnt so much in my first three months at OX IT Solutions,” said Tom. “Before joining OX IT Solutions, I had some sales experience, but this was mostly directly to consumers.

“Thanks to my on-the-job training, I have developed my sales technique and now feel confident assisting clients in all sectors.

“I have learnt how to respond to specific enquiries as well as how to communicate effectively and build relationships with potential customers.

“The skills I have developed as a BDM have given me a fantastic foundation for a career in the IT industry and will help me make the step to Account Manager in the future.”

“I have had several other jobs but the culture at OX IT has been the most supportive. The team work closely together which has created a really good environment to learn in”

He added: “The fantastic team spirit creates a great atmosphere in the office. Hard work is rewarded with exciting incentives and rewards, so we always feel motivated to go the extra mile for our clients or generate new business.”
