Securing critical data and improving performance at msolv
Data is critical to the day-to-day operation of most businesses. If that data is not secure and protected, the business is vulnerable.
Oxfordshire-based msolv required a reliable solution to safeguard its information and prevent any potential data loss.
msolv is a UK company with a rich history of laser materials processing and inkjet materials deposition. msolv now focuses on the semiconductor packaging market, providing equipment and processes for large-area electronics, such as sensors and solar energy. It is part of the Hong Kong based CN-Innovations group.
The custom-engineering firm partnered with OX IT Solutions and Proximitum to enhance their storage, network and protection.
Project Brief
msolv was looking to upgrade its local network, servers and desktop infrastructure to the most up to date technologies and processes and felt it needed to get a greater level of support alongside this, from a new IT supplier.
While many organisations rely solely on remote IT services, msolv wanted the reassurance of local, on-site support, alongside reliable licensing and service provision.
The main challenge centered around boosting the performance of its servers to meet the growing demands of the business, while protecting critical data at the same time.
Chris Cope, Head of Managed Service at OX IT Solutions, said:
“msolv were hoping to achieve better support, and onsite support if they needed it. These days, most things can be done remotely but they wanted that peace of mind that someone could come on site and fix something if it broke within a day or two, or same day if needed.
“They also wanted better infrastructure. They wanted their server upgraded.”
The Solution
To address the potential risks, msolv implemented an Acronis managed service provider (MSP) solution, delivered jointly by OX IT Solutions and Proximitum.
OX IT provided licensing for the Acronis MSP solution, alongside Microsoft 365 and WatchGuard firewall services, while Proximitum installed a new server, secured cloud backups and managed the data migration.
Chris said:
“We accessed to the host server, implemented the Acronis agents and backed up all the virtual machines.
“Their data is now safe with a copy of everything in the cloud. That copy was then used to restore to the new server that we had installed and then we upgraded all the virtual machines to Windows Server 2022 and 2025.
“By providing their Acronis MSP version, it gives them the backup, it gives them the disaster recovery, it gives them the cyber security, and it gives them peace of mind.”

In addition to improved security and resilience, the new infrastructure has delivered a significant increase in performance, dramatically reducing the time taken to access and transfer large files.
Chris said:
“msolv’s engineers need to open very large files over the network. It used to be much slower; to open a file would have taken three or four minutes. Now it takes five seconds.
“By moving all that data to the new server, everything is now very fast. The guys are just over the moon because their productivity has gone up massively.”
OX IT Solutions and Proximitum continue to provide ongoing support to msolv, ensuring backups are running efficiently and the server environment remains secure and up to date.
Chris said.
“We've improved their security by implementing the Acronis cyber protect on all their workstations and all their servers.
“We've also implemented email security for them and we're looking at Microsoft 365 backups using Acronis as well. That's the sort of roadmap that we follow to improve their security and give them better options moving forward.”
